Joel Werring is associate professor and chair of the Fine Arts Department. He is an American artist whose paintings and mixed media pieces explore the ways in which the past and its attendant memories can have a physical presence in our lives. Werring received his BA in art practice from the University of California at Berkeley and his MFA from the Yale School of Art. In 2003, he received the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in painting.
