The Gladys Marcus Library’s latest offering for the FIT community is the IDML: the Interior Design Materials Lab, available to all FIT students, with additional resources for those studying interior design. Located on the sixth floor of the library, the lab includes interior design encyclopedias as well as a collection of physical samples of interior design materials—from fabric swatches to paint chips and wood finishes—and is expanding to include a virtual reality (VR) terminal that allows students to view, walk through, and analyze 3D models, architectural designs, and patterns. The use of the VR terminal will require some training and instruction, which students can sign up for in advance through the Interior Design Department.
