The Faculty Research Space (FRS) at FIT is pioneering the use of new technologies, including garment visualization, to create digital sample garments. Clo software takes advantage of motion capture technology to model the real-life conditions that affect garments, including how the material and cut would be affected by wind and gravity. Furthermore, the software can work with new inputs, such as 3D body scans, to create bespoke garments. This new territory for sample creation allows for virtual samples that provide the designer with much more information than previously available in the digital realm, better demonstrating the capabilities and functionality of a physical sample and the end product.
