Purpose/Impact
For the 285 million people with sight challenges around the world, Wayband offers a means to experience daily activities using vibration as a directional guide versus a sight aid that requires a free hand to use. By providing independence and mobility at an affordable price, the WearWorks products can change lives.
Outcomes/Accomplishments
Mobility challenges prevent 70 to 80 percent of the visually impaired from working. Traditional aids such as canes require environmental cues to work; guide dogs can master an area or a series of tasks, but can’t immediately learn a new neighborhood or navigate an unfamiliar city. The Wayband’s haptic technology addresses these concerns.
Status Update
After years of development, the Wayband is coming to market. In February 2020, WearWorks will launch a Kickstarter campaign that will allow consumers to reserve the product.
