Spandex is a miracle fiber for its ability to stretch and recover, giving clothing that desirable fitted look. Unfortunately, it is not recyclable or biodegradable, and any fabric containing spandex can’t be recycled. Also: it’s present in small quantities in 80 percent of clothing. Team EcoLastane—Fashion Design students Mitchell Henderson, Daniella Koller, and Monica Palucci—decided to look for a spandex alternative in nature.
