Purpose/Impact

With the goal of fulfilling a key aspect of the strategic plan’s innovation goal, the Center for Innovation launched in September of 2019.  By opening the Center for Innovation, faculty and alumni will have a facility, off of the FIT campus, to conduct innovative research. The space includes a workspace, access to WIFI, and a conference area. The research being conducted in the space must demonstrate innovation by establishing a new process or methodology that further advances studies related to the disciplines that FIT focuses on and/or shows direct ties to the needs of the industries with whom we are related.

Outcomes/Accomplishments

With the feedback from the FIT community in mind, the Office of the President and Academic Affairs teamed up to create The Center for Innovation Research Release Time Program for full-time classroom faculty. This release time is available beginning in the spring 2020 semester to FIT Faculty, whose research has an innovation focus as long as it follows guidelines that match the college’s goals for innovation. Faculty will commence research at the Center for Innovation during the spring semester.  Alumni will also be offered space to incubate emerging, innovative businesses in the creative industries.
